STOP Mission
Students that Oppose Pornography (STOP) is a student organization that informs college students of current pornography research , trains them how to use and develop technology that protect themselves and future generations, and shows them how to respond to popular media and interact with non-Christian communities. To further develop these themes, for research, the club gathers psychology, philosophy, and other related academic articles. One is selected and e-mailed to club members at the beginning of each week. It is hoped the article will be read before our meetings, where we will then review and discuss the article content. At other times, club members or guest speakers will give informative presentations on their personal research. In regards to technology, we aim to help students improve their internet experience by maximizing the calibrations of filters, blocking ports, and utilizing surveillance software to establish accountability programs. We'll also suggest superior search engine techniques. In terms of response, many popular television shows and magazines discuss pornography. We want to help students get in the habit of responding to his media via letters to the editor and e-mailing sponsoring companies. Extending beyond popular media, we hope that the research we share will students write the government, explaining to the appropriate officials reasons to legislate against pornography and suggesting reasonable solutions. Throughout the process, it will be evident that much research in the field is lacking, and so we encourage students to fill in the gaps by writing for class assignments, paper contests, symposiums, and academic journals.
